Campus Football League

The success of the Port Elizabeth leg of the 2009 Spur Masidlale campaign was once again dependent upon the participation of players from NMMU Soccer and the NMMU Vodacom Campus Football League. 25 players gave up their time to make a difference in the lives of over 300 pupils who attended the event held at the NMMU Second Avenue Campus.

The NMMU Soccer and Vodacom CFL players acted as mentors and coaches for the pupils. The day started with a life skills session in which the pupils were made aware of issues such as good citizenship, youth rights and the need for personal responsibility. Later on in the day, the coaches introduced soccer-specific skills such as passing, trapping and heading. It was evident that the children greatly benefitted from the expertise of their mentors and coaches. The pupils’ smiles and laughter were captured by a Supersport crew which will screen the event on one of the sport channel's magazine shows.
